On-Call Inpatient Shift Supervisor – Adult Inpatient Unit (AIU)
Hiring Range: $24.94. - $30.55 Per Hour
Additional Pay With Shift Differentials! (Up To An Additional $1.25/Hr)
Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a dedicated Inpatient Shift Supervisor to join our team. You will play a crucial role in supervising and supporting Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) to ensure the smooth operation of our inpatient units. Your responsibilities will include hiring and supervising BHTs, conducting ongoing assessments of milieu acuity and client risk, organizing staffing per shift, overseeing client admissions, facilitating therapeutic programming, and conducting regular chart audits.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Conduct ongoing assessments of client risk and milieu acuity, working with staff to de-escalate situations and use the least restrictive interventions when needed.
• Collaborate with treatment teams and supervise physical interventions, ensuring the safety of all clients and staff. Lead post-incident debriefings as appropriate.
• Monitor staffing levels per shift and arrange additional coverage based on client needs following protocol.
• Oversee the intake and admission process, ensuring completion of documentation, policy compliance, and safety standards.
• Review treatment notes and coordinate follow-up on treatment plans and staff assignments.
• Supervise BHTs, including training, coaching, performance evaluations, and support during disciplinary processes.
• Conduct regular one-on-one supervision sessions with BHTs and document all relevant performance conversations.
• Support new BHTs through orientation, ongoing coaching, and onboarding.
• Participate in BHT hiring and interview processes in collaboration with unit leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree and 1 year relevant work experience (ie: social service, mental health or customer service) OR
- Associates degree and 2 years relevant work experience (ie: social service, mental health or customer service) OR
- High school diploma and 3 years relevant work experience (ie: social service, mental health or customer service)
LICENSURE: Eligibility for Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration
Preferred Qualifications:
- Job history managing direct reports
- Experience in a behavioral health setting
Performance Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE:
- Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in MPAC/CPI trainings and other agency-mandated trainings
- Maintain knowledge of unit policies and procedures and work collaboratively with the Inpatient Director and Manager to address updates and revisions as necessary.
SKILLS:
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Word preferred.
ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.

REQUIREMENT:, Food Handler’s Card, CPR Certification
Equipment Operated: Equipment used: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods. Occasional need to engage in physical restraints and interventions.
Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, ascend and descend stairs, talk or listen and lift up to 50 pounds. Peripheral vision is also required for this position.
KMHS Key Performance Indicators:
Ability to process referrals within 3 hrs. of receipt while maintaining other unit workflows and management.
